Pine Tree Holstein Annual Meeting
By Betsy Bullard
After weather issues prevented the
initially scheduled meeting for the
Pine Tree Holstein association, we did finally
meet on March 31 in Waterville
at the Governor’s Restaurant.
Meeting discussion included
plans for a Pine Tree Holstein website,
discussion of the upcoming
New England Convention this fall in
Lewiston, and items for our National
Convention delegates to convey at
their visit to Knoxville, including
ongoing difficulties reporting Canadian
pedigree information and use of
the EASY ID system. Juniors reported out on their activities, which may include workshop time at the Skowhegan Fair this summer along with the usual slate of activities. Changes are underway with the Juniors, as this year’s Convention will mark the end of Debbie Keene’s many years of service to the Juniors. Her influence will surely be missed. Despite the fact that our initial speakers were not able to join us for the rain date, the group did enjoy a discussion of the ongoing legislative process and status of the various pieces that impact dairy, led by Julie-Marie Bickford, Executive Director of Maine Dairy Industry Association. The new slate of officers for 2007-2008 includes Jim Strout as president, Chris Kimball as VP, and new directors Ron Simpson, Lincoln Hawes, and Brian Rinehart.
