Pine Tree Holstein Association
Annual Meeting - March 2009
The 2009 Pine Tree Holstein Association Annual Meeting was called to order by President Jim Strout at 10:35am. He welcomed all and thanked them for coming.
President Strout made the announcement that Eda Tripp had asked to retire as Secretary/Treasurer after 22 years of service. She was presented with a card and beautiful flowers from the Association along with our sincerest thanks for such dedicated service. Eda will still be around to help with the transition to our new Secretary/Treasurer Debbie Keene.
Membership: Eda Tripp reported that the March 2009 report showed Maine with 94 active members (up from 89 last year) and 49 juniors.
Old Business: Eda Tripp read thank you notes from Eastern States Exposition for our sponsorship of an award, the Louisville judging team for our contribution to their trip ( they finished 10th – only 23 points out of 1st place!!), and Michaela Davis for her trip to 2008 National Convention.
New Business: Eastern States Exposition request for sponsorship of class award for the 2009 show – Blaine Moon made a motion to approve, second by Kathy Haley -$35.00 was approved. Maine Ag in the Classroom $50.00 request – Bill Bullard made the motion to approve, second by Jayme Strout – motion carried. Blaine Moon reported that the Jersey Futurity may be moving from Bangor Fair to Windsor Fair. The show is to be held Sunday evening after the Junior Showmanship utilizing the same judge. Holstein breeders did not have any problem with that proposed change. Glen Wildes spoke about the DHI Working Farm Scholarship program. The Scholarship pays $2.00/hour with a limit of $1000.00 per year for hands on/practical experience on a farm other than the applicant’s home farm. There is $45,000.00 in the account and Glen feels they can support 2 or 3 applicants/year. The young people must apply before they begin work and write a couple 1 page papers on what they learned in the job and submit their hours for reimbursement.
Respectfully submitted,
Debbie Keene
